FIA AWARDS 2024: ACI AND MONZA HONORED WITH THE FOUNDING MEMBERS’ CLUB HERITAGE CUP

Following the renewal of the agreement with Formula 1, which secures the Italian Grand Prix at Monza until 2031, the Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI) and Autodromo Nazionale Monza have received yet another prestigious accolade. This recognition further underscores ACI’s commitment in its role as the national motorsport federation.

At the 2024 FIA Awards, held in Kigali, Rwanda, ACI and Autodromo Nazionale Monza were honored with the Founding Members’ Club Heritage Cup.

The award, accepted by Giuseppe Redaelli, President of Autodromo Nazionale Monza, celebrates excellence in the promotion and preservation of motorsport heritage. It acknowledges the efforts of the "Temple of Speed" in keeping alive over a century of motorsport history.

The Founding Members’ Club Heritage Cup was awarded to Autodromo Nazionale Monza in recognition of the significant modernization works carried out this year. These improvements have ensured compliance with the latest safety standards while preserving the historical integrity of the circuit.

“I am proud of this award because the Founding Members’ Club Heritage Cup is presented each year by the club of FIA founding members, which includes ACI,” stated Angelo Sticchi Damiani, President of the Automobile Club d’Italia. “This is an important accolade granted to outstanding figures in motorsport or the automotive world, as well as to museums or circuits—like Monza in this case. We are the only ones to have won this award four times since the club was established 20 years ago, during the FIA’s centenary celebrations. This recognition confirms that, on a global level, we are acknowledged for our ability to highlight the extraordinary excellence present in our territory. Specifically, this award for Autodromo Nazionale Monza joins those previously granted for the Mille Miglia, the Mauto-Museo Nazionale dell’Auto in Turin, and the Targa Florio.”

FORMULA 1 TO RACE IN MONZA UNTIL 2031

“Great satisfaction for a signature that rewards seriousness, professionalism and the extraordinary commitment of the ACI” was expressed by the president of Automobile Club Italia, Angelo Sticchi Damiani, for the agreement signed with Formula 1, organizer of the World Championship, which will allow the Autodromo Nazionale Monza to host the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix at least until 2031. The signing of the contract, after a long negotiation, is the result of the effort made by Automobile Club d'Italia, in its role as national federation, to maintain a date in the calendar of the most prestigious world series. Angelo Sticchi Damiani (ACI President):

"We are proud, as ACI, to have managed to secure six more editions of the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza after 2025. This is a great result, the result of the determination, seriousness and professionalism shown by the Automobile Club d'Italia, both in the construction of the works carried out in the first seven months of 2024, to adapt the facility to current standards, and in this complex renewal negotiation. But we must thank the President and CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, for the valuable and decisive contribution, which made this extension of the contract possible, and above all the Government, the Lombardy Region, and all the local institutions that have allowed the Italian Grand Prix to attract, over the course of the last editions, an ever-increasing number of enthusiasts. In particular, I would like to underline the essential contribution of the Government and the Lombardy Region, which have invested resources in this over a century-old facility, financing the works carried out this year. Monza, as is known, is the oldest racetrack in the world to host a World Championship event and is the longest-running in the world championship calendar. But we are all aware that history is no longer enough. For this reason, after the resurfacing of the track and underpasses, to ensure greater safety on the track and for the public, we have a new challenge ahead of us for 2025: improving the quality and quantity of the hospitality offering. With this objective, we are already working to stay at the forefront of the standards required by modern Formula 1 “. Autodromo Nazionale Monza: an ancient track with an eye to the future
Built in 1922, Autodromo Nazionale Monza is the second oldest circuit in the world still in operation after Indianapolis and, since it was established in 1950, the Formula 1 World Championship has always been present on the calendar with the exception of 1980. No other facility can boast such a long permanence. Autodromo Nazionale Monza, to keep up with the times, underwent major modernization works in 2024 which involved the resurfacing of the entire track, the expansion of three underpasses and the creation of a completely new one with the aim of improving traffic flow, separating vehicular mobility from pedestrian mobility. This was the first tranche of works: for 2025 Autodromo Nazionale Monza will provide for the improvement of services and the expansion of the Paddock Club with consequent new positioning of the Media Center.

FORMULA 1 PIRELLI GRAND PRIX OF ITALY 2024: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 1

Clamorous victory of the Ferrari at Monza with Charles Leclerc in the Formula 1 Pirelli Italian Grand Prix 2024: the Monegasque, with a one-stop strategy, crossed the finish line ahead of the McLaren of Oscar Piastri e Lando Norris. Fourth the other driver of the red Carlos Sainz. Monza celebrates not only the success of the House of Maranello but also the record number of spectators: more than 335 thousand.

"This extraordinary public deserved Ferrari's victory - was the comment of the president of the Automobile Club of Italy, Angelo Sticchi Damiani, who awarded on the podium together with the Undersecretary of State at the Mef. Federico Freni, the President of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana and Pirelli's Executive Vice President, Marco Tronchetti Provera - and Charles Leclerc's victory. The explosion of joy, which has not been recorded since 2019, was a testimony to how much desire there was to pay tribute to this great applause, to express this great enthusiasm for a victory that certainly reopens the World Championship. All this gives us hope that in the last part of the season the results can be consistent and consequent to this victory. The Automobile Club d' Italia (Federation of Sports Automobilism) and Italian motorsport embrace with much affection and enthusiasm Charles Leclerc, who is back to being the one of 2019."

"In this happy weekend I also emphasize the record public repaid by this splendid victory, which was also a way to celebrate the new track," added the ACI president. A track that showed its qualities, allowing Leclerc, for example, to run 38 laps on the same tires. This is undoubtedly thanks to the extraordinary driving by Charles and perhaps also to the paving. Finally, I congratulate Leonardo Fornaroli for winning the Formula 3 championship."

Formula 3: Fornaroli third and champion. Minì disqualified

Finishing third in the Feature Race at Monza, Leonardo Fornaroli (Trident) became Formula 3 champion: a podium finish achieved on the last lap with an overtaking move on Christian Mansell. That maneuver had made second place a very valid Gabriele Minì (Prema Racing), vain in terms of classification. But the ACI Team Italia driver was later removed from the finishing order for a technical irregularity (tire pressure). The victory of the race went to the French Sami Meguetounif (Trident).

Fornaroli, who will turn 20 on Dec. 3, captured the championship without winning any races. "We did it to clinch this blessed title," Fornaroli commented at the end of the race, "It was not a perfect race, because I made several mistakes and did not treat the tires properly. I knew that the only chance to win the title was to pass Mansell, I arrived at the last corner with the idea of trying "It was do or die." He was fair, giving me the right amount of space, and I was able to pass. I thank Trident, my family, sponsors, trainer and coach There are no words to describe this."

"Obviously I am a little disappointed that I was not able to bring the title home," Minì had commented before the disqualification, "but second place at the finish line is what I should have done to try to win. I gave everything but I am very happy about that, so I want to thank my team, Alpine, ACI, the sponsors my family and everyone who supported me this season."

Formula 2: Bortoleto wins. Antonelli at the foot of the podium

The Formula 2 race was won by Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto (Invicta Racing), who started last and accomplished a feat. Kimi Antonelli (Prema) finished fourth. "It was quite a complicated race - explained the Bolognese driver of ACI Team Italia who will race in F1 next year with Mercedes -: a lot of things happened, too bad for the Safety Car because the podium was within my reach. In the end I am happy, the pace was good. Now I'm thinking about Baku."

Norris was presented with the Queen's Ring by the undersecretary of the Presidency of the Lombardy Region, Mauro Piazza, and the Mayor of Monza, Paolo Pilotto the Queen's Ring, which reproduces in likeness the Iron Crown (made during the Lombard reign, used to crown several Holy Roman Emperors, Napoleon Bonaparte, and finally since 1890 included in the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Italy). Some features of the racing world reminiscent of the checkered flag have been added to this ring. After the delivery, author Guido Guzzi, a goldsmith artist, returned to the workshop to adapt the ring to Lando's finger and to engrave his name.

Formula 2 and Formula 3: Antonelli 18th, F.3: Fornaroli (9th) and Minì (10th) play for the title tomorrow

In F2 success of Englishman Oliver Bearman (Prema). The driver of ACI Team Italy. Kimi Antonelli finished 18th, on the day Mercedes announced his engagement for the 2025 season of the Formula 1 World Championship. "It's not the race I expected but starting from behind was to be expected," commented the driver from Bologna. "Unfortunately, there was an accident in the straight and my wing broke. So I had to run the whole race on supersoft tires. I knew it would be very difficult because those tires have a short life. But still I gathered useful data for tomorrow. Now I reset and think about doing well tomorrow." Sunday's race will start at 10:05 a.m. (30 laps).

In F3, German Tim Tramniz (MP Motosport) won. Leonardo Fornaroli (Trident) finished ninth ahead of title rival Gabriele Minì (Prema). "It was a good race, I started 16th, in the first half of the race the car was really going very strong - explained Fornaroli -, in the final instead I suffered some degradation in the rear, so unfortunately I lost two positions. However, I collected important points, now I will work to fix the car in the best possible way for tomorrow's race." Here, instead, are the words of Minì, driver of ACI Team Italia: "It was a very close race. I lost a few positions on the first lap, and that definitely didn't help me, but at the end of the race I managed to recover some of them. We were not the fastest on the track but we can work well for tomorrow. We are playing for everything there." Sunday's race will start at 8:35 a.m. (22 laps.

Also today in the paddock, the 2025 Formula 3 was presented.

FORMULA 1 PIRELLI GRAND PRIX OF ITALY 2024: DELIVERY OF THE QUEEN'S RING

On Saturday, August 31 during the weekend of the Formula 1 Pirelli Italian Grand Prix 2024 at Autodromo Nazionale Monza, the first edition of theQueen's Ring will be held, an award desired and sponsored by the City of Monza and the Lombardy Region that interprets and represents some elements of the History, Culture, and Tradition of Monza and Lombardy with an obvious reference to the Italian Grand Prix.

The project stems from the objective consideration that the Riders are the modern Knights and the Grand Prix is the modern Tournament where the Knights competed and, like the Knights, the Riders best represent the qualities of courage, loyalty, respect for rules and are a role model to be inspired by.

The ring, during a brief ceremony after qualifying, will be presented to the Driver who will set the fastest lap time by winning the Pole Position for the race. The Queen's Ring is the brainchild of Antonio Mariani and Enrico Squarzina and is the result of the creativity and mastery of Guido Guzzi Goldsmith Artist of Monza who, inspired by the Iron Crown, has included elements that recall the checkered flag, one of the symbols of Motorsport and the colors of the flag of Italy with precious stones set on the ring. The ring will be a unique piece made exclusively for this event and will be personalized to size with the Driver's name and references to testify to the award.

Monza, Lombardy and Italy are represented by the Italian Grand Prix that is run in the temple of speed, the oldest active racetrack in the World and on a unique territory for History, Culture, Traditions that deserve to be known and become a destination for an unforgettable exploration trip.

The City of Monza, in its History, has all the elements to enhance this similarity beginning with Queen Teodolinda, an iconic figure of the Lombard nobility who is credited with gifts of great intelligence and beauty combined with her extraordinary skill as a horsewoman that make her even today an example of a woman who was a protagonist of her life and times.

The Iron Crown from which the ring is inspired has great historical and cultural value having crowned many Kings of Italy including Napoleon Bonaparte but even stronger, is its religious value. The Iron Crown, in fact, according to legend, holds in its structure one of the nails with which Jesus was crucified. A graft that makes it a precious relic.

This recognition will be over the years, a way to affirm the value of the Pilots and to let the world know, through one of the most popular sports the immense Historical and Cultural heritage of Our Country.

FORMULA 1 PIRELLI GRAND PRIX OF ITALY 2024: FRIDAY, AUGUST 30

The Mercedes Briton, a 7-time world champion, stopped the second session's stopwatch at 1'20"738, average 258.302 km/h, just 3 thousandths ahead of Lando Norris (McLaren), fresh from his success in Holland and who was among the most acclaimed in Fanzone. Third time for Ferrarista Carlos Sainz: the Spaniard is 103 thousandths behind. Fifth time for Charles Leclerc who is 0"154 behind the other McLaren driver Oscar Piastri. Unfortunate was Andrea Kimi Antonelli 's Mercedes debut in the first session, which lasted only five laps before he crashed at the Parabolica. "It was quite an intense day," Kimi explained, "Unfortunately, my first FP1 ended quickly. I pushed too early, I should have done it progressively, instead I went for the limit right away. The impact was big, a good 52g lateral, and I don't feel great. I thank Mercedes for the chance they gave me, I apologize to the team and George Russell. Now I'm focusing on F2 to try to have a good weekend anyway."

The Prema and ACI Team Italia driver ended Formula 2 qualifying with the sixth fastest time (pole position for England's Zane Maloney). Today in the Sprint Race the top ten start in reverse positions. Good news from Formula 3, where championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli (Trident) took pole position - a result that allowed him to extend his lead in the standings to 3 points - with Gabriele Minì (Prema, ACI Team Italia driver) and who will start third in Sunday's race (inverted grid for the top twelve).

"Every driver, a tree": planted 20 trees with Sticchi, Domenicali and General Rispoli Twenty trees, as many as the drivers participating in the Formula 1 Pirelli Italian Grand Prix 2024: this morning in the Variante Ascari area, the President of ACI, Angelo Sticchi Damiani, the President of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, General of Army Corps, Andrea Rispoli, Commander of the Forestry Environmental and Agri-food Units Command, Brigadier General, Raffaele Pio Manicone, Commander of the Carabinieri Biodiversity Regiment, the President of AC Milan, Geronimo La Russa, the President of Sias- Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Giuseppe Redaelli, and the President of Formula Imola, Giancarlo Minardi attended the initiative "Ogni pilota un albero," promoted by Automobile Club d'Italia in agreement with the General Command Forestry, Environmental and Agri-food Units of the Carabinieri Corps.

On the occasion, wild apple trees, wild pear trees, pado trees, wild cherry trees, turkey oaks, oxyphyll ash trees and field maples were planted.

"We have renewed an initiative taken last year with the Carabinieri Corps, which is to contribute, both at Monza and Imola, to plant a tree for every driver. Last year I had not been able to attend, so I was very pleased to be there now," commented ACI President Angelo Sticchi Damiani . "I thank General Andrea Rispoli and the entire Carabinieri Corps, who inspired this initiative. We are always attentive to the environment, everything we can do to improve this wonderful park, which deserves respect but needs help because of its age and problems like all parks, we do it. I think this is the right way to live within the park."

"I thank the president of ACI, Angelo Sticchi Damiani, and all those who worked on this initiative-these are the words of General Andrea Rispoli : we have planted plants that are a symbol of closeness between the Carabinieri Corps and the citizen. There is the sporting moment, but also respect for biodiversity. This is also a moment of education for all generations."

Autodromo Nazionale Monza's managing director, Alfredo Scala, awarded by the Parco Regionale Valle Lambro On the occasion of the 42nd edition of the Confartigianato Motori Award, the Parco Regionale della Valle del Lambro presented the "Technology and Environment Award" to the managing director, Alfredo Scala "for his contribution to the innovative vision that has characterized the significant modernization interventions of the circuit," reads the motivation. A commitment to the development and management of the racetrack that has also been able to look with great attention and concreteness at issues of sustainability."

During the ceremony, Scala emphasized that "being inside the Lambro Valley Regional Park for us is a source of pride and uniqueness and always pushes us to take care of our park. After the storm of July 2024, thanks to the collaboration with the agencies, Lombardy Region and the Carabinieri Forestry and Parks Protection Command, more than 8,000 plants were planted. It is also important for us to recover, transforming, as was recently done with the logs felled by the storm that became furniture for the forest area and fountains for our spectators. Environment also means transitioning to a renewable energy tariff and using biofuel generators. We have achieved FIA three stars recognition and want to maintain it for a long time.

"For us," Scala continued, "sustainability is also social, and in recent years we have implemented activities together with associations both during the Grand Prix and throughout the year. The local community for us remains the starting point for involvement, starting with schools and associations to be more and more a facility at the service of the area around us. In this Grand Prix, thanks to the modernization works we can say that we have further reduced architectural barriers and this has allowed us to create a new area dedicated to fans with disabilities who have all the services available and can move around the circuit also thanks to the indications of WeGlad, which is an online community developed precisely by young people with disabilities, who map the routes indicating possible obstacles. Also during this GP, we renewed our partnerships with ATS and CSV for food donation, and our friends from PizzAut will still be by our side. Joining us this year will be LILT, which will provide sunscreen for spectators, and Rise Against Hunger, an association particularly active in fighting food waste and supporting communities in Zimbabwe."

Ten dispensers for sunscreen: an initiative in collaboration with LILT

At the same time as the Fanzone opened to the public, the distribution of SPF50 sunscreen began through 10 dispensers located within the circuit that work autonomously thanks to a built-in solar panel. The cream is dispensed automatically and hygienically. This is an initiative created by Autodromo Nazionale Monza in collaboration with LILT, the Italian League for the Fight against Cancer. According to 2023 data from Aiom (Italian Association of Medical Oncology), exposure to UV rays is the most important environmental risk factor for skin cancer.

AT THE FORMULA 1 PIRELLI ITALIAN GRAND PRIX, LILT OFFERS THE PUBLIC SUNSCREEN DISPENSERS

Engines on: Formula 1 returns to the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, recently reopened following modernization work. From August 29 to September 1, the “Temple of Speed”, one of the oldest and most prestigious circuits in the world, will host the 95th edition of the Italian Grand Prix. New asphalt, a more performing track and new pedestrian paths are just some of the new features that await drivers and fans.

One of the most unexpected is certainly the presence of 10 sunscreen dispensers that LILT and the Autodromo have decided to place inside the circuit.

At the dispensers, which work autonomously thanks to a built-in solar panel, the public will be able to stock up on SPF 50 sunscreen, dispensed automatically and hygienically. The dispensers will be periodically refilled with product to allow anyone to make a “pit stop” for protection at any time. The sunscreen inside the dispensers is approved by a LILT dermatologist and protects against solar rays, which are a risk factor for the development of skin cancer and premature aging of the dermis.

“Today we are stepping on the accelerator together with the Autodromo Nazionale Monza to raise awareness among more and more people on the importance of preventing skin cancer, and in particular melanoma, the third most frequent tumor in the under 50s – comments Marco Alloisio , president of LILT Milano Monza Brianza – We thank the Autodromo for allowing us to amplify our message, prevention is living, during the days of the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Ten clearly visible dispensers full of useful information will invite fans to protect themselves during a time of significant and prolonged exposure to solar rays. This is our mission”.

“Being alongside LILT is a source of pride for us – said Giuseppe Redaelli , president of SIAS Autodromo Nazionale Monza – Making sunscreen available to fans is not only a very useful service, but also a means of spreading and understanding a message that must lead to greater awareness. The Autodromo Nazionale Monza, hosting hundreds of thousands of fans, must be a megaphone for initiatives such as the one promoted in collaboration with LILT, promoting behaviors that are increasingly attentive to safeguarding health”.

According to 2023 data from Aiom (Italian Association of Medical Oncology), exposure to UV rays is the most important environmental risk factor for skin cancer, also known as melanoma. This tumor occurs at a young age and in Italy it is the third most frequent in both sexes under the age of 50.

LILT and the Autodromo have chosen to install the dispensers because they are aware of the importance of safety, not only for the drivers and fans in the stands, but also for their skin. Even if the sun is hidden by clouds, it is necessary to apply the cream that should be spread on the body (including hands, feet, ears and scalp) every hour and a half or every two hours. Other useful tips for protection are reported on the dispensers together with the UV index, or the level of solar ultraviolet radiation, of the place where they are installed. T

o find out the distribution points of LILT sun cream, you can consult the map available on the Monza Circuit app.
