FIA AWARDS 2024: ACI AND MONZA HONORED WITH THE FOUNDING MEMBERS’ CLUB HERITAGE CUP

Following the renewal of the agreement with Formula 1, which secures the Italian Grand Prix at Monza until 2031, the Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI) and Autodromo Nazionale Monza have received yet another prestigious accolade. This recognition further underscores ACI’s commitment in its role as the national motorsport federation.

At the 2024 FIA Awards, held in Kigali, Rwanda, ACI and Autodromo Nazionale Monza were honored with the Founding Members’ Club Heritage Cup.

The award, accepted by Giuseppe Redaelli, President of Autodromo Nazionale Monza, celebrates excellence in the promotion and preservation of motorsport heritage. It acknowledges the efforts of the "Temple of Speed" in keeping alive over a century of motorsport history.

The Founding Members’ Club Heritage Cup was awarded to Autodromo Nazionale Monza in recognition of the significant modernization works carried out this year. These improvements have ensured compliance with the latest safety standards while preserving the historical integrity of the circuit.

“I am proud of this award because the Founding Members’ Club Heritage Cup is presented each year by the club of FIA founding members, which includes ACI,” stated Angelo Sticchi Damiani, President of the Automobile Club d’Italia. “This is an important accolade granted to outstanding figures in motorsport or the automotive world, as well as to museums or circuits—like Monza in this case. We are the only ones to have won this award four times since the club was established 20 years ago, during the FIA’s centenary celebrations. This recognition confirms that, on a global level, we are acknowledged for our ability to highlight the extraordinary excellence present in our territory. Specifically, this award for Autodromo Nazionale Monza joins those previously granted for the Mille Miglia, the Mauto-Museo Nazionale dell’Auto in Turin, and the Targa Florio.”

FORMULA 1 TO RACE IN MONZA UNTIL 2031

“Great satisfaction for a signature that rewards seriousness, professionalism and the extraordinary commitment of the ACI” was expressed by the president of Automobile Club Italia, Angelo Sticchi Damiani, for the agreement signed with Formula 1, organizer of the World Championship, which will allow the Autodromo Nazionale Monza to host the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix at least until 2031. The signing of the contract, after a long negotiation, is the result of the effort made by Automobile Club d'Italia, in its role as national federation, to maintain a date in the calendar of the most prestigious world series. Angelo Sticchi Damiani (ACI President):

"We are proud, as ACI, to have managed to secure six more editions of the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza after 2025. This is a great result, the result of the determination, seriousness and professionalism shown by the Automobile Club d'Italia, both in the construction of the works carried out in the first seven months of 2024, to adapt the facility to current standards, and in this complex renewal negotiation. But we must thank the President and CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, for the valuable and decisive contribution, which made this extension of the contract possible, and above all the Government, the Lombardy Region, and all the local institutions that have allowed the Italian Grand Prix to attract, over the course of the last editions, an ever-increasing number of enthusiasts. In particular, I would like to underline the essential contribution of the Government and the Lombardy Region, which have invested resources in this over a century-old facility, financing the works carried out this year. Monza, as is known, is the oldest racetrack in the world to host a World Championship event and is the longest-running in the world championship calendar. But we are all aware that history is no longer enough. For this reason, after the resurfacing of the track and underpasses, to ensure greater safety on the track and for the public, we have a new challenge ahead of us for 2025: improving the quality and quantity of the hospitality offering. With this objective, we are already working to stay at the forefront of the standards required by modern Formula 1 “. Autodromo Nazionale Monza: an ancient track with an eye to the future
Built in 1922, Autodromo Nazionale Monza is the second oldest circuit in the world still in operation after Indianapolis and, since it was established in 1950, the Formula 1 World Championship has always been present on the calendar with the exception of 1980. No other facility can boast such a long permanence. Autodromo Nazionale Monza, to keep up with the times, underwent major modernization works in 2024 which involved the resurfacing of the entire track, the expansion of three underpasses and the creation of a completely new one with the aim of improving traffic flow, separating vehicular mobility from pedestrian mobility. This was the first tranche of works: for 2025 Autodromo Nazionale Monza will provide for the improvement of services and the expansion of the Paddock Club with consequent new positioning of the Media Center.

FORMULA 1 PIRELLI GRAN PREMIO D'ITALIA 2024: SUNDAY 1 SEPTEMBER

Stunning victory for Ferrari at Monza with Charles Leclerc in the 2024 Formula 1 Pirelli Italian Grand Prix: the Monegasque driver, using a one-stop strategy, crossed the finish line ahead of the McLaren of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. The other Ferrari driver, Carlos Sainz, finished fourth. Monza celebrated not only the success of the Maranello team but also a record attendance: over 335,000 spectators.

"This extraordinary crowd deserved a Ferrari victory, and Charles Leclerc delivered it" commented Angelo Sticchi Damiani, President of the Automobile Club d’Italia, who presented the podium awards along with the Undersecretary of State at the MEF, Federico Freni, the President of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, and Pirelli’s Executive Vice President, Marco Tronchetti Provera. "The explosion of joy, not seen since 2019, was a testament to the strong desire to express this great enthusiasm for a victory that certainly reopens the World Championship. All of this gives us hope that in the final stretch of the season, the results will be consistent with this victory. The Automobile Club d’Italia (Federation of Motor Sport) and Italian motorsport embrace Charles Leclerc with much affection and enthusiasm, as he returns to his 2019 form."

"In this joyful weekend, I also highlight the record attendance, rewarded by this splendid victory, which also served as a celebration of the new track," added the ACI President. "The track showed its qualities, allowing Leclerc, for example, to complete 38 laps on the same tires. This was certainly thanks to Charles' extraordinary driving and perhaps also to the track surface. Finally, I congratulate Leonardo Fornaroli for winning the Formula 3 championship."

Formula 3: Fornaroli third and champion. Minì disqualified

By finishing third in the Monza Feature Race, Leonardo Fornaroli (Trident) was crowned Formula 3 champion: a podium secured on the final lap with an overtaking move on Christian Mansell. That maneuver rendered the second place of a very competitive Gabriele Minì (Prema Racing) meaningless in terms of the standings. However, the ACI Team Italia driver was later removed from the results due to a technical irregularity (tire pressure). The race win went to the Frenchman Sami Meguetounif (Trident).

Fornaroli, who will turn 20 on December 3rd, won the championship without securing a race victory. "We finally managed to win this blessed title," commented Fornaroli after the race. "It wasn’t a perfect race because I made several mistakes and didn’t manage the tires well. I knew the only way to win the title was to pass Mansell. I approached the last corner thinking, 'It's all or nothing.' He was fair, gave me enough space, and I managed to pass. I want to thank Trident, my family, sponsors, trainer, and coach. There are no words to describe all of this."

"Obviously, I’m a bit disappointed not to have brought home the title," Minì commented before the disqualification, "but finishing second was what I needed to try to win. I gave it my all, and I’m very happy with that. I want to thank my team, Alpine, ACI, sponsors, my family, and everyone who supported me this season."

Formula 2: Bortoleto wins. Antonelli just off the podium

The Formula 2 race was won by the Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto (Invicta Racing), who pulled off an incredible feat after starting last. Kimi Antonelli (Prema) finished fourth. "It was a pretty complicated race," explained the Bologna-born driver of ACI Team Italia, who will race in F1 with Mercedes next year. "A lot happened, and it’s a shame about the Safety Car because the podium was within my reach. In the end, I’m happy; the pace was good. Now I’m thinking about Baku."

FORMULA 1 PIRELLI GRAN PREMIO D'ITALIA 2024: SATURDAY 31 AUGUST

Lando Norris, winner last week in Holland, will start tomorrow in pole position in the 2024 Formula 1 Pirelli Italian Grand Prix, which will begin at 3:00 PM (53 laps to go): the English McLaren driver stopped the clock at 1’19″327, with an average speed of 262.896 km/h. Next to him on the front row will be his teammate, Oscar Piastri. The Australian clocked in at 1’19″436.

On the second row are George Russell with the first Mercedes (1’19″440) and Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc (1’19″461). On the third row are the other Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz (1’19″467) and his successor in red: Lewis Hamilton with the second Mercedes (1’19″513). Seventh fastest was the three-time world champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull), winner of the last two editions, with a time of 1’20″022.

Norris was awarded the Queen’s Ring by the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Lombardy Region, Mauro Piazza, and the Mayor of Monza, Paolo Pilotto. The ring replicates the appearance of the Iron Crown (crafted during the Lombard reign, used to crown several Emperors of the Holy Roman Empire, Napoleon Bonaparte, and finally, since 1890, incorporated into the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Italy). Some racing-related features, such as the checkered flag, have been added to this ring. After the presentation, the author Guido Guzzi, a goldsmith artist, returned to the workshop to fit the ring to Lando’s finger and engrave his name.

Formula 2 and Formula 3: Antonelli 18th, F.3: tomorrow Fornaroli (9th) and Minì (10th) will compete for the title

In F2, the Englishman Oliver Bearman (Prema) took the victory. The ACI Team Italia driver Kimi Antonelli finished 18th on the day Mercedes announced his signing for the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship season. “It’s not the race I expected, but starting from the back, it was to be expected,” commented the driver from Bologna. “Unfortunately, there was an accident on the straight, and my wing broke, so I had to complete the race on supersoft tires. I knew it would be very difficult because those tires have a short life. But in any case, I collected useful data for tomorrow. Now I’ll reset and focus on doing well tomorrow.” The Sunday race will start at 10:05 AM (30 laps).

In F3, German Tim Tramnitz (MP Motorsport) won. Leonardo Fornaroli (Trident) finished ninth ahead of Gabriele Minì (Prema), his title rival. “It was a great race; I started 16th. In the first half of the race, the car was really fast,” explained Fornaroli. “In the final part, however, I suffered a bit of rear degradation, so unfortunately, I lost two positions. I still collected important points, and now I will work on setting up the car as best as possible for tomorrow’s race.”

Here are the words of Minì, ACI Team Italia driver: “It was a very hard-fought race. I lost a few positions during the first lap, which certainly didn’t help me, but at the end of the race, I managed to recover some. We weren’t the fastest on the track, but we can work well for tomorrow. We’ll play it all out there.” The Sunday race will start at 8:35 AM (22 laps).

Also today in the paddock, the 2025 Formula 3 was presented.

FORMULA 1 PIRELLI ITALIAN GRAND PRIX 2024: FRIDAY 30 AUGUST 2024

Lewis Hamilton , who will be at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza next year in a Ferrari suit, achieved the best overall time on the day dedicated to free practice for the 2024 Formula 1 Pirelli Italian Grand Prix , the sixteenth round of the World Championship (out of 24) to be held on Sunday.

The Englishman from Mercedes, 7 times world champion, stopped the clock in the second session at 1'20”738, an average of 258.302 km/h, just 3 thousandths ahead of Lando Norris (McLaren), fresh from his success in Holland and who was among the most acclaimed in Fanzone. Third fastest time for Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz : the Spaniard is 103 thousandths behind. Fifth fastest time for Charles Leclerc who is 0”154 behind the other McLaren driver Oscar Piastri.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli had an unlucky debut with Mercedes in the first session, which lasted only five laps before crashing at the Parabolica. “It was quite an intense day,” Kimi explained. “Unfortunately, my first FP1 ended quickly. I pushed too early, I should have done it progressively, but instead I immediately looked for the limit. The impact was significant, 52 lateral Gs, and I don’t feel great. I thank Mercedes for the opportunity they gave me, I apologize to the team and George Russell. Now I’m focusing on F2 to try to have a good weekend anyway.” The Prema and ACI Team Italia driver closed the Formula 2 qualifying session with the sixth fastest time (pole position for Englishman Zane Maloney). Today in the Sprint Race, the top ten will start in reverse order. Good news from Formula 3, where championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli (Trident) took pole position – a result that allowed him to extend his lead in the standings to 3 points – with Gabriele Minì (Prema, ACI Team Italia driver) and who will start third in the Sunday race (reversed grid for the top twelve).

“Every driver, a tree”: 20 trees planted with Sticchi, Domenicali and General Rispoli

Twenty trees, as many as the drivers participating in the Formula 1 Pirelli Italian Grand Prix 2024: this morning in the Variante Ascari area, the President of the ACI, Angelo Sticchi Damiani , the President of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali , the General of the Army Corps, Andrea Rispoli , Commander of the Forestry, Environmental and Agri-food Units Command, the Brigadier General, Raffaele Pio Manicone , Commander of the Carabinieri Biodiversity Group, the President of AC Milan, Geronimo La Russa , the President of Sias- Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Giuseppe Redaelli , the President of Formula Imola, Giancarlo Minardi attended the initiative “Every driver, a tree”, promoted by Automobile Club d'Italia in agreement with the General Command of the Forestry, Environmental and Agri-food Units of the Arma dei Carabinieri. On this occasion, wild apple trees, wild pear trees, pado trees, wild cherry trees, Turkey oaks, oxyphilous ash trees and field maples were planted. “We renewed an initiative taken last year with the Arma dei Carabinieri which is to contribute, both in Monza and Imola, to planting a tree for each pilot. Last year I was unable to attend and so I was very pleased to be there now – commented the president of ACI, Angelo Sticchi Damiani -. I thank General Andrea Rispoli and the entire Arma dei Carabinieri, who inspired this initiative. We are always attentive to the environment, everything we can do to improve this wonderful park, which deserves respect but needs help due to its age and its problems like all parks, we do it. I think this is the right way to live inside the Park”. “I thank the president of ACI, Angelo Sticchi Damiani, and all those who worked on this initiative - these are the words of General Andrea Rispoli -: we have planted plants that are a symbol of closeness between the Carabinieri and the citizen. There is the sporting moment, but also respect for biodiversity. This is also a moment of education for all generations”.

The DG of Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Alfredo Scala, awarded by the Valle Lambro Regional Park On the occasion of the 42nd edition of the Confartigianato Motori Award, the Valle del Lambro Regional Park awarded the “Technology and Environment Award” to the General Director, Alfredo Scala “for his contribution to the innovative vision that has characterized the significant modernization interventions of the circuit – we read in the motivation -. A commitment to the development and management of the Autodromo that has also been able to look with great attention and concreteness at the issues of sustainability”. During the ceremony, Scala underlined how “being inside the Lambro Valley Regional Park is a source of pride and uniqueness for us and always pushes us to take care of our park. After the storm of July 2024, thanks to the collaboration with the authorities, the Lombardy Region and the Carabinieri Forestry and Parks Protection Command, more than 8,000 plants were planted. For us, it is also important to recover, transforming, as recently done with the trunks felled by the storm that became furniture for the wooded area and fountains for our spectators. Environment also means transition to an energy tariff from renewable sources and use of biofuel generators. We have obtained the FIA three stars recognition and we want to keep it for a long time. “For us – continued Scala – sustainability is also social and in recent years we have implemented activities together with the associations both during the Grand Prix and throughout the entire year. The local community for us remains the starting point for involvement, starting with schools and associations to increasingly be a facility serving the area around us. In this Grand Prix, thanks to the modernization work we can say that we have further reduced the architectural barriers and this has allowed us to create a new area dedicated to disabled enthusiasts who have access to all the services and can move around the circuit also thanks to the indications of WeGlad, which is an online community developed by young people with disabilities, who map the routes indicating possible obstacles. Also during this GP we have renewed the collaborations with ATS and CSV for food donation and our friends from PizzAut will still be at our side. In addition, this year, LILT, which provides sunscreen for spectators and Rise Against Hunger, an association particularly active in the fight against food waste and in supporting communities in Zimbabwe”.

Ten dispensers for sunscreen: an initiative in collaboration with LILT

At the same time as the Fanzone opened to the public, the distribution of SPF50 sunscreen began through 10 dispensers located within the circuit that work autonomously thanks to a built-in solar panel. The cream is dispensed automatically and hygienically. This is an initiative created by Autodromo Nazionale Monza in collaboration with LILT, the Italian League for the Fight against Cancer. According to 2023 data from Aiom (Italian Association of Medical Oncology), exposure to UV rays is the most important environmental risk factor for skin cancer.

The Fuori GP of Monza, Biassono and Vedano al Lambro also started

The first day of the Formula 1 Pirelli Italian Grand Prix also saw the opening of the Fuori GP 2024 of the Municipality of Monza, Biassono and Vedano al Lambro with numerous attractions for young and old fans and lots of music.

FORMULA 1 PIRELLI ITALIAN GRAND PRIX: A CELEBRATION OF SPORT AND SOLIDARITY WITH RISE AGAINST HUNGER ITALY

On the occasion of the Formula 1 Pirelli Gran Premio d'Italia 2024, the Autodromo Nazionale Monza is transformed into a pulsating center of global solidarity. Rise Against Hunger Italia, the well-known international organization committed to fighting hunger and poverty in the world, will be there to involve the public in an extraordinary initiative: a solidarity race to support the population of Zimbabwe, severely affected by one of the most serious droughts in recent history.

Solidarity Runs at the Speed of Formula 1

From August 29 to September 1, visitors to the FanZone, located between the famous high-speed circuit and the straight that follows the Ascari curve, will have the opportunity to take part in a unique challenge: packaging meals for communities in need in Zimbabwe. In a celebration that evokes the team spirit of Formula 1, participants will come together to assemble ingredients and create nutritious meals, directly contributing to the well-being of thousands of families in a state of food emergency.

An Ambassador of Excellence: Claudia Peroni

Supporting and promoting the initiative will be sports journalist Claudia Peroni, an icon of world motorsport and ambassador of Rise Against Hunger Italia. With over a year of commitment alongside the organization, Claudia, known for her passionate reporting on the greatest drivers in the world, will be there to tell the story of the deep connection between the values of sport and those of solidarity.

Four Days of Events and Solidarity

The four days of the Grand Prix, from the afternoon of Thursday 29 August until the race on Sunday 1 September, will be packed with events and activities. The public will not only be spectators, but will become protagonists of a concrete act of solidarity, demonstrating how the energy and passion that animate Formula 1 can be put to the service of humanitarian causes of great importance.

Comment by the President of Rise Against Hunger Italia, Alberto Albieri

“I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the organizers of the Autodromo Nazionale Monza for their extraordinary hospitality and for believing in the initiatives of Rise Against Hunger Italia. It is thanks to their support and their vision that today we can unite sport and solidarity in such a significant event” declared Alberto Albieri, President of Rise Against Hunger Italia. “It is a source of great pride for us to be here with Claudia, our Ambassador icon of this sport, a much-loved face by all fans of the world of racing.”

A Small Gesture for a Big Change

Rise Against Hunger Italia, active for over ten years, continues to spread a message of hope and change. Through events like this, the organization wants to demonstrate that, by joining forces, it is possible to fight and defeat hunger and poverty in the world. Every gesture of participation, every hour of volunteering, can make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Join Us: Together We Can Make a Difference

Anyone who wants to participate in the initiative will be welcome: the enthusiasm and contribution of the volunteers will be essential for the success of the event and to bring concrete help to those who, in Zimbabwe, are fighting for survival.

AT THE FORMULA 1 PIRELLI ITALIAN GRAND PRIX, LILT OFFERS THE PUBLIC SUNSCREEN DISPENSERS

Engines on: Formula 1 returns to the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, recently reopened following modernization work. From August 29 to September 1, the “Temple of Speed”, one of the oldest and most prestigious circuits in the world, will host the 95th edition of the Italian Grand Prix. New asphalt, a more performing track and new pedestrian paths are just some of the new features that await drivers and fans.

One of the most unexpected is certainly the presence of 10 sunscreen dispensers that LILT and the Autodromo have decided to place inside the circuit.

At the dispensers, which work autonomously thanks to a built-in solar panel, the public will be able to stock up on SPF 50 sunscreen, dispensed automatically and hygienically. The dispensers will be periodically refilled with product to allow anyone to make a “pit stop” for protection at any time. The sunscreen inside the dispensers is approved by a LILT dermatologist and protects against solar rays, which are a risk factor for the development of skin cancer and premature aging of the dermis.

“Today we are stepping on the accelerator together with the Autodromo Nazionale Monza to raise awareness among more and more people on the importance of preventing skin cancer, and in particular melanoma, the third most frequent tumor in the under 50s – comments Marco Alloisio , president of LILT Milano Monza Brianza – We thank the Autodromo for allowing us to amplify our message, prevention is living, during the days of the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Ten clearly visible dispensers full of useful information will invite fans to protect themselves during a time of significant and prolonged exposure to solar rays. This is our mission”.

“Being alongside LILT is a source of pride for us – said Giuseppe Redaelli , president of SIAS Autodromo Nazionale Monza – Making sunscreen available to fans is not only a very useful service, but also a means of spreading and understanding a message that must lead to greater awareness. The Autodromo Nazionale Monza, hosting hundreds of thousands of fans, must be a megaphone for initiatives such as the one promoted in collaboration with LILT, promoting behaviors that are increasingly attentive to safeguarding health”.

According to 2023 data from Aiom (Italian Association of Medical Oncology), exposure to UV rays is the most important environmental risk factor for skin cancer, also known as melanoma. This tumor occurs at a young age and in Italy it is the third most frequent in both sexes under the age of 50.

LILT and the Autodromo have chosen to install the dispensers because they are aware of the importance of safety, not only for the drivers and fans in the stands, but also for their skin. Even if the sun is hidden by clouds, it is necessary to apply the cream that should be spread on the body (including hands, feet, ears and scalp) every hour and a half or every two hours. Other useful tips for protection are reported on the dispensers together with the UV index, or the level of solar ultraviolet radiation, of the place where they are installed. T

o find out the distribution points of LILT sun cream, you can consult the map available on the Monza Circuit app.

FORMULA 1 PIRELLI ITALIAN GRAND PRIX 2024: QUEEN'S RING DELIVERY

On Saturday 31 August during the weekend of the Formula 1 Pirelli Gran Premio d'Italia 2024, the first edition of the Anello della Regina will take place at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, an award desired and sponsored by the Municipality of Monza and the Lombardy Region that interprets and represents some elements of the History, Culture and Tradition of Monza and Lombardy with an obvious reference to the Grand Prix of Italy.

The project was born from the objective consideration that the Drivers are the modern Knights and the Grand Prix is the modern Tournament where the Knights challenged each other and, like the Knights, the Drivers best represent the qualities of courage, loyalty, respect for the rules and are a reference model to be inspired by. The ring, during a short ceremony after qualifying, will be awarded to the Driver who sets the fastest lap, gaining Pole Position for the race. The Queen's Ring is the result of the creativity and mastery of Guido Guzzi, Goldsmith Artist from Monza who, inspired by the Iron Crown , has inserted elements that recall the checkered flag, one of the symbols of Motorsport, and the colours of the Italian flag with precious stones set on the ring.

The ring will be a unique piece made exclusively for this event and will be customised with the Driver's name and references to testify to the award. Monza, Lombardy and Italy are represented by the Italian Grand Prix which is held in the temple of speed, the oldest active racetrack in the world and in a unique territory for History, Culture, Traditions that deserve to be known and become a destination for an unforgettable journey of exploration.

The City of Monza, in its History, has all the elements to enhance this similarity starting from Queen Teodolinda , an iconic figure of the Lombard nobility who is recognized for her great intelligence and beauty combined with her extraordinary ability as a horsewoman that still today make her an example of a woman protagonist of her life and her era.

The Iron Crown that the ring is inspired by has a great historical and cultural value having crowned many Kings of Italy including Napoleon Bonaparte but even stronger is its religious value. The Iron Crown, in fact, according to legend, holds in its structure one of the nails with which Jesus was crucified. A graft that makes it a precious relic. This recognition will be over the years, a way to affirm the value of the Pilots and to make the immense Historical and Cultural heritage of Our Country known to the world, through one of the most popular sports.
