With a change to the 2022 calendar, the third round of the European Le Mans Series will be held on Sunday 3 July in Italy at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. The Temple of Speed will thus replace the event scheduled at the Hungaroring in Hungary on the same date.
The European Le Mans Series returned to Monza in 2017 and the circuit has hosted one championship round per year ever since. The move therefore involves two rounds in Italy, with the 4 Hours of Imola on May 15th. The two Italian races will precede and follow the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans, which will take place on 11/12 June.
Frederic Lequien, CEO of Le Mans Endurance Management , comments: “We regret that ELMS will not be able to race in Hungary in July but due to local regulations and restrictions, the Hungaroring Management was unable to meet the conditions of the contract.
Thanks to its historicity and the dynamism of the track, Monza is certainly appreciated by most of the competitors in the ELMS paddock and has given us some of the best races since the return of the series in 2017. I would like to thank the whole Monza team for their precious collaboration and for allowing the series to compete in the third round of the 2022 season this summer “.
Alessandra Zinno, General Manager of Autodromo Nazionale Monza: “We are very satisfied that the European Le Mans Series wanted to return to Monza again this year to consolidate an appointment that is becoming a tradition on our calendar. The real result is that the Temple of Speed will become the House of Endurance for a couple of weeks thanks to ELMS and WEC, present in two consecutive weekends in July. Compared to 2021, when only a thousand spectators were able to watch the sports battles live, we will try to fill the stands and make the two weekends a show on and off the track. Thanks to the 4 Hours of Monza, the centenary season is enriched with another important appointment that motorsport fans will certainly appreciate “.
