Autodromo Nazionale Monza obtains the 3 Stars of the FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme

Thanks to the various initiatives implemented in recent years in the field of environmental sustainability, the Temple of Speed has achieved the most important recognition from the International Automobile Federation. The circuit had already received the "FIA 1 Star" and "FIA 2 Star" awards in 2020 and 2021.

The commitment to environmental sustainability that Autodromo Nazionale Monza has been pursuing for years with concrete and measurable initiatives has allowed the circuit to win the precious "FIA 3 Star" award, which the International Automobile Federation assigns to operators who guarantee compliance of the highest environmental standards.

The Autodromo Nazionale Monza is the oldest and most prestigious circuit in the world and, compared to all the other racetracks, has the characteristic of being located within one of the largest enclosed parks in Europe. For this reason, attention to the protection of the environment and the conservation of the natural heritage is an absolute priority for the Temple of Speed.

After having obtained the two prestigious "FIA 1 Star" and "FIA 2 Star" awards in the two previous editions of the WRC World Rally Championship, held in 2020 and 2021, thanks to specific programs and actions in favor of the park and greenery, the Autodromo Brianzolo was therefore honored with a new important award.

In addition to the activities implemented during motorsport competitions, with the contribution of local institutions and the Lombardy Region, a vast environmental protection plan all round; among the various initiatives it is important to mention the forest enhancement projects, on the one hand the actions to compensate for losses due to various atmospheric phenomena and on the other to improve the green lung of the park for the benefit of visitors.

The inclusive approach is also appreciated that Autodromo Nazionale Monza has adopted to achieve the objectives of environmental sustainability, i.e. to educate and engage all of its stakeholders - from the institutions to civil society and all the motorsport enthusiasts who populate the stands at sporting events - to raise awareness of the importance of a common and participatory action, because a small individual gesture can have enormous benefits for the whole community.

“We are proud to have obtained this important certification which we do not consider a point of arrival but an incentive to continue on the path we have taken. We see the commitment to environmental protection as a duty not only towards the community for which we have been operating for over 100 years, but also towards future generations, who will continue to develop a passion for motor sport, to enjoy its positive economic repercussions on the whole surrounding area and to enjoy the beauty of a unique park of its kind”, he underlined Giuseppe Redaelli , President of the Monza National Autodrome.

Christmas in Monza, all the events and initiatives of the 2022 holidays

During the Christmas holidays, Monza lights up with numerous events and initiatives. For those arriving in the city as a tourist, therefore, there are many possible things to do, including markets, Christmas villages, walks in the historic center lit up and visits to the main monuments. Here are some tips. The Christmas season is coming, there is no way to pretend nothing is happening. The streets of all the most important Italian cities begin to be colored with decorations and themed lights and the shops begin to display decorations based on snow, elves and Santa Claus puppets. There are still several weeks to go, but everything is ready to celebrate the holiday season . It is time, therefore, also to plan any trips , made easier by the holidays and the closure of schools. And what better time than Christmas to rediscover the beauties made in Italy ? Not surprisingly, even Monza and Brianza, during the days ranging from Christmas to the Epiphany, are filled with tourists. This is why a short and updated vademecum that indicates the most important Christmas events among those scheduled in the city can be useful. A guide that answers the fateful question: What can you do at Christmas in Monza?

Find out what to do and what to see in Monza (apart from Christmas)

The Christmas markets in Monza

The first answer brings to mind a great classic: the Christmas markets , an unmissable traditional event. And Monza is no exception. From the end of November until the Epiphany, there are numerous opportunities that the city of Brianza offers its inhabitants and tourists to stroll among crafts and food and wine stalls. The first initiative on the calendar is Christmas Experience , an exclusive Christmas market hosted inside the Royal Villa of Monza , a place with a unique charm. The event is scheduled for 26 and 27 November , from 10 to 19 . Also from 27 November, the Christmas Village , the historic open-air market of Monza, returns to Piazza Carducci and Piazza San Paolo, with its load of stands and attractions for adults and children. Open until January 6th, every day (9.30am-7.30pm), the Christmas market also hosts the Magic Tree , a spectacular ten-metre high carousel .

The Christmas attractions of the historic center

Also very evocative are the rides in Piazza San Paolo (a faithful replica of a 19th century model, with wooden horses and carriages) and in Largo Mazzini (an electric train on rails), in addition to the Ferris wheel in Largo IV Novembre (open every day, 10am-12am). Another little train then crosses the entire historic center (departing from Piazza Roma ), immersing Monza residents and tourists in the beautiful city decorations. In Piazza Trento e Trieste , on the other hand, there is an ice skating rink : over 300 square meters for enthusiasts and amateurs. Christmas in Monza, however, is not concentrated only in the main streets but spreads throughout the districts, with sweet houses, attractions and lights. And for children who want to meet Santa Claus , there are two appointments:

  • on 19 December at 4.30 pm at the Parchetto via Luca della Robbia ;
  • on 20 December at 4.30 pm at the Varisco Park.

  • The Christmas Village of Cavenago : a magical place, open from November 26 to December 18, with an ice skating rink, artisan markets, shows and many tasty sweet and savory delicacies;
  • Track Days at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza : on November 20 and 27, the Temple of Speed welcomes those who want to experience the thrill of a lap on the track aboard a real racing car; two days of Track Days with some special surprises (find out more here ).

Christmas holidays, an opportunity to discover Monza and Brianza

To enjoy Monza at Christmas, however, it is not necessary to dive into the colorful chaos of organized events. More simply, you can let yourself be conquered by the city and its beauties , taking advantage of the holidays to visit it. Decorated with Christmas lights, the historic center of Monza and its symbolic monuments acquire an even greater charm. Christmas, therefore, can simply become a good excuse to visit beauties such as:

Autodromo Nazionale Monza alongside the Municipality of Monza in the #ResponsabilmenteGiovani project

The initiative aims to raise awareness and educate the younger generations on the best behaviors to pursue to reduce and combat the risks of road accidents.

Monza, 17 November 2022 – Spreading the culture of moving around safely through knowledge and the adoption of correct behavior and stimulating greater awareness of the risks of the vehicle and the road. With this in mind, the safe driving courses for cars and scooters, developed in collaboration with AC Milano, started today at the Monza Autodrome for over 200 students, including novice drivers and pink sheet holders, from the Monza schools participating in #ResponsabilmenteGiovani .

The initiative, conceived and presented by the Municipality of Monza , ranked second in the ranking of projects selected by the Ministry of the Interior for the promotion, coordination and monitoring of prevention, experimentation and contrast activities on the national territory of traffic accidents caused by alcohol and drugs.

“Automobile Club Milano is always in the front line, with the experts of its structure and its statutory study commissions, in the training of all road users, in order to create and disseminate in them a careful and growing knowledge of the characteristics of the traffic, the means used, the driving skills required, the rules of conduct, the dangers, the importance of all the aspects and all the rules that make up the complex picture of road safety. Our commitment embraces all age groups starting from the smallest and youngest, protagonists of the mobility of the future that we therefore wish to create on solid foundations built on prevention and awareness. That awareness that is indispensable every time we move at any time of our day, on foot or using any means”, he underlines Geronimo La Russa , President of Automobile Club Milano.

“Nobody owns the road, every day millions of people walk it as if it were a normal routine activity which leads us all to feel somewhat invincible and perfectly able to pay attention to several activities at the same time. We forget our responsibility towards the community and ignore that we are a potential danger both for us and for those around us; so let us try to remember that over 60% of road deaths are innocent victims of the distraction of others, which is the main cause of road accidents. When we are on the road - drivers, pedestrians, cyclists or scooter users - we must never feel hyper-protected by road rules (frequently interpreted too loosely and extensively in our favour) but think that through distraction or driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, or due to a sudden illness, or due to the material impossibility of realizing the sudden danger, those arriving may find themselves in the position of not being able to avoid the accident. We must therefore ensure that the perception of danger increases more and more in all road users, through targeted awareness campaigns on road safety education”, he says Giuseppe Redaelli , President of the Monza National Circuit.

“Making the generations who are approaching car driving aware of having respect for their vehicle and for all the 'actors' on the road, including pedestrians, is the first step in strengthening the perception of the risks deriving from incautious behaviour, such as distraction at the wheel , the underestimation of the road and above all the high speed. Also in the Temple of Speed, the ACI, which protects road safety among its statutory purposes, wants to demonstrate that it is possible to teach the youngest how to acquire the correct evaluation of the road and its dangers in relation to the road route, the importance to always respect the highway code, made up of simple rules that can save one's life and that of others”, he says Alessandra Zinno , General Manager of the Monza National Circuit.

The Monza and Brianza Traffic Police and the Monza Local Police were also present on the first day of the courses, which deal with roadside checks, in particular in the most sensitive time slots with respect to the phenomenon of driving while intoxicated or under the effect of narcotic substances.

Starting from the early stages of the project, the Police Forces have significantly increased the number of checks in order to prevent accidents. Since April, 586 drivers have been checked, including 78 novice drivers. 409 alcohol pre-tests and 18 drug tests were carried out - "Investing in the prevention and training of the youngest is an essential lever on the educational and safety fronts - explains the Mayor Paolo Pilotto - Opportunities like these, therefore, prove to be precious for learning in a serene way and for identifying positive examples to follow".

The Councilor for Youth Andreina Fumagalli and the Councilor for Security Ambrogio Moccia also took part in the press conference.

Together with the Italian Red Cross, Carrobiolo 2000 Cooperativa Sociale, Promozione Umana Onlus and Itineraria Teatro, Autodromo Nazionale Monza is one of the project implementers and will specifically organize safe driving courses for cars and scooters over 6 different days about 200 boys with the involvement of industry experts and the supervision of a talent loved and recognized by the younger generation of motorsport enthusiasts, namely the racing driver and TV presenter Davide Valsecchi.

The courses are designed as real training , in the classroom and in the field, to allow students to learn how to control the vehicle in different conditions: sudden dangers, braking, obstacles, wet curves and slippery asphalt. Furthermore, various types of road bends will be tackled to facilitate training and the evaluation of the correct speed approaching a bend and the intensity of braking.

Safe driving courses for cars are organized by Master Driving, a reality founded and directed by Maurizio Verini, Italian and European Rally champion and world champion for the Marches (FIAT), who has been involved in road safety for over 15 years and in particular in theoretical and practical car driving courses at all levels.

The safe driving courses for scooters, a vehicle that is becoming more and more part of the travel habits especially of the youngest, are instead held with the support of Dott, who makes available for the entire duration of the project up to 25 scooters and a qualified instructor. Dott is the market leader in the scooter and ebike sharing sector and has always invested in training and safety. Dott has been active in Italy since 2019 and in Milan and Monza since 2020 with its rental services.

Crugnola-Carmellino dominate the Special Rally Circuit in the Temple of Speed

The two-time Italian rally champion Andrea Crugnola, sailed by Marina Carmellino, wins three of the four stages disputed and wins by over 20 seconds over Tosini-Peroglio. Zanazio-Brusa finish third on the only WRC Plus in the race.

Andrea Crugnola is the winner of the sixth edition of the Special Rally Circuit organized by Vedovati Corse. The expert driver from Varese, the Italian rally champion in 2020 and 2022 and winner of the Monza Rally Show in 2019, has asserted his experience in the specialty by outclassing all the 99 opponents who have tried, unsuccessfully, to compete for the top step of the podium.

In fact, after two cars were forced to retire due to technical problems at the end of the shakedown on Saturday, there were 100 drivers at the start of the "Monzino", which gave life to four hard-fought Special Stages for a total of 81.4 Km covered. , in front of a cheering audience arranged on the terraces and stands of the Temple of Speed.

Crugnola, sailed by his partner Marina Carmellino, showed up at Monza driving a Citroën C3 R5 from Movisport, and was also able to beat the only WRC Plus in the race, the Ford Fiesta driven by Guido Zanazio And Cesare Brusa, who alternated in the roles of driver and navigator between the various tests and who closed the weekend in third overall, after being in second place until the start of the fourth test.

Crugnola-Carmellino, who conquered the success with more than 20 seconds of margin on the first rivals, were good at starting immediately strong, winning both the PS in the morning, the Vedovati 1 and the Special Vedovati 2, and putting between themselves and the two drivers of the WRC Plus an important margin, administered until the end. What made the difference was the second test of the day - after a very balanced first scratch and concluded in favor of the winners by just one tenth - with Crugnola and Carmellino who preceded the rival duo by 16.9 seconds.

Zanazio-Brusa tried to reassemble, grabbing the third Special Stage, but they ran into a bad fourth heat, so much so that they couldn't even confirm second place, stolen in the final by just two tenths of a second. Luca Tosini And Roberto Peroglio, third in 2021, on a Skoda Fabia R5 from Historika. Less fortunate was last year's star performer Marco Butti who, after a comforting start, damaged the car by losing some positions and finishing sixth with his Hyundai I20 (Dimensione Corse).

The Special Rally Circuit closed the sports season of the Temple of Speed. A year that saw the Autodrome become the home of endurance for two consecutive weeks in July, hosting both the European Le Mans Series and the World Endurance Championship, before recording a record attendance during Formula 1 Pirelli Italian Grand Prix 2022, with the red tide that inflamed the stands of the Brianza circuit for three days.

The sixth edition of the Special Rally Circuit in the Temple of Speed

The rally organized by Vedovati Corse counts over 100 members at the start, with the shakedown scheduled for Saturday at 1pm. The event closes the sporting season of the Brianza circuit.

The cars of the Special Rally Circuit are back on show in the Temple of Speed. The recurring rally appointment with the race organized by Vedovati Corse closes the sporting season of the Autodromo Nazionale Monza on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 November, and brings a parterre of prestigious members to the Brianza Circuit, with over a hundred drivers at the start of the race.

To be precise, there are 102 cars at the start, which will try to oust Marco Butti from the top step of the podium, winner in 2021 with his VW polo R5 at just 16 years old and present at the starting line also this year in Rally2 class with Hyundai. In the 2022 entry list, the Ford WRC Plus driven by Guido Zanazio together with the navigator Cesare Brusa, and the three WRCs of Fabrizio Fontana, Luigi Fontana and Alberto Sassi stand out. In the parterre also 6 Under 25 and 5 Under 18.

The first of the two days will be dedicated, as usual, to technical and sporting checks starting at 9:30, while from 13 there will be space for the shakedown. In addition, a Free Practice session will be held between 12:25 and 12:55, open to all registered teams and also to sponsors.

The races will instead take place all on Sunday, the decisive day to decree the winner of the sixth edition of the Special Rally Circuit. The program includes four Special Stages, of which two called "Vedovati" of 23.4 km, respectively at 8:38 and 13:37, and two, shorter, called "Special Vedovati", of 17.3 km, at 11:11 and 16:10. The four stages will therefore make up a mileage of 81.4 km between morning and afternoon and an overall route for pilots and navigators of 83.6 km.

Spectators will be able to access the Circuit on both Saturday and Sunday to follow the event live. Admission will be free, with the payment of parking on Sunday only and with a rate of 15 euros for each car and 5 euros for each motorcycle. The parking ticket must be purchased directly on the day of the event at the entrances of Viale di Vedano and Santa Maria delle Selve.
