FORMULA 1 PIRELLI GRAN PREMIO D'ITALIA 2024: SATURDAY 31 AUGUST
Lando Norris, winner last week in Holland, will start tomorrow in pole position in the 2024 Formula 1 Pirelli Italian Grand Prix, which will begin at 3:00 PM (53 laps to go): the English McLaren driver stopped the clock at 1’19″327, with an average speed of 262.896 km/h. Next to him on the front row will be his teammate, Oscar Piastri. The Australian clocked in at 1’19″436.
On the second row are George Russell with the first Mercedes (1’19″440) and Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc (1’19″461). On the third row are the other Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz (1’19″467) and his successor in red: Lewis Hamilton with the second Mercedes (1’19″513). Seventh fastest was the three-time world champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull), winner of the last two editions, with a time of 1’20″022.
Norris was awarded the Queen’s Ring by the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Lombardy Region, Mauro Piazza, and the Mayor of Monza, Paolo Pilotto. The ring replicates the appearance of the Iron Crown (crafted during the Lombard reign, used to crown several Emperors of the Holy Roman Empire, Napoleon Bonaparte, and finally, since 1890, incorporated into the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Italy). Some racing-related features, such as the checkered flag, have been added to this ring. After the presentation, the author Guido Guzzi, a goldsmith artist, returned to the workshop to fit the ring to Lando’s finger and engrave his name.
Formula 2 and Formula 3: Antonelli 18th, F.3: tomorrow Fornaroli (9th) and Minì (10th) will compete for the title
In F2, the Englishman Oliver Bearman (Prema) took the victory. The ACI Team Italia driver Kimi Antonelli finished 18th on the day Mercedes announced his signing for the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship season. “It’s not the race I expected, but starting from the back, it was to be expected,” commented the driver from Bologna. “Unfortunately, there was an accident on the straight, and my wing broke, so I had to complete the race on supersoft tires. In F3, German Tim Tramnitz (MP Motorsport) won. Leonardo Fornaroli (Trident) finished ninth ahead of Gabriele Minì (Prema), his title rival. “It was a great race; I started 16th. In the first half of the race, the car was really fast,” explained Fornaroli. “In the final part, however, I suffered a bit of rear degradation, so unfortunately, I lost two positions. I still collected important points, and now I will work on setting up the car as best as possible for tomorrow’s race.”
Here are the words of Minì, ACI Team Italia driver: “It was a very hard-fought race. I lost a few positions during the first lap, which certainly didn’t help me, but at the end of the race, I managed to recover some. We weren’t the fastest on the track, but we can work well for tomorrow. We’ll play it all out there.” The Sunday race will start at 8:35 AM (22 laps).

Lewis Hamilton , who will be at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza next year in a Ferrari suit, achieved the best overall time on the day dedicated to free practice for the 2024 Formula 1 Pirelli Italian Grand Prix , the sixteenth round of the World Championship (out of 24) to be held on Sunday.
The Englishman from Mercedes, 7 times world champion, stopped the clock in the second session at 1'20”738, an average of 258.302 km/h, just 3 thousandths ahead of Lando Norris (McLaren), fresh from his success in Holland and who was among the most acclaimed in Fanzone. Third fastest time for Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz : the Spaniard is 103 thousandths behind. Fifth fastest time for Charles Leclerc who is 0”154 behind the other McLaren driver Oscar Piastri.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli had an unlucky debut with Mercedes in the first session, which lasted only five laps before crashing at the Parabolica. “It was quite an intense day,” Kimi explained. “Unfortunately, my first FP1 ended quickly. I pushed too early, I should have done it progressively, but instead I immediately looked for the limit. The impact was significant, 52 lateral Gs, and I don’t feel great. I thank Mercedes for the opportunity they gave me, I apologize to the team and George Russell. Now I’m focusing on F2 to try to have a good weekend anyway.” The Prema and ACI Team Italia driver closed the Formula 2 qualifying session with the sixth fastest time (pole position for Englishman Zane Maloney). Today in the Sprint Race, the top ten will start in reverse order. The DG of Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Alfredo Scala, awarded by the Valle Lambro Regional Park On the occasion of the 42nd edition of the Confartigianato Motori Award, the Valle del Lambro Regional Park awarded the “Technology and Environment Award” to the General Director, Alfredo Scala “for his contribution to the innovative vision that has characterized the significant modernization interventions of the circuit – we read in the motivation -. Formula 1 Pirelli Italian Grand Prix 2024 Fanzone Inaugurated: Success and Participation on the First Day
The first day of the Formula 1 Pirelli Gran Premio d'Italia 2024, with the cars still locked in the pits, saw an exceptional popular turnout at the Fanzone which opened at 1pm. Among the moments that catalysed the activity on the stage were the presence of AC Monza footballers Stefano Turati and Patrick Ciurria, Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur and Formula 2 drivers Juan Manuel Correa, Zane Maloney, Enzo Fittipaldi and the three competing for the Formula 3 title: Leonardo Fornaroli, Gabriele Minì (ACI team Italia) and the British Luke Browning.
The monument dedicated to Michele Alboreto inaugurated
Thursday in Monza also saw the inauguration of the monument dedicated to Michele Alboreto (1956-2001), an unforgettable driver (194 F1 GPs and 5 victories with Tyrrell and Ferrari) to whom Autodromo Nazionale Monza had already dedicated the Parabolica curve.
The ceremony was attended by Nadia and Noemi Alboreto, Michele's wife and daughter, the undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Federico Freni, the president of ACI, Angelo Sticchi Damiani, the president of the Lombardy Regional Council, Federico Romani, the mayor of Monza, Paolo Pilotto, the president of Sias, Giuseppe Redaelli and the author of the work, Lorenzo Martinoli.
The monument, which is located at the side of the paddock, represents Alboreto's helmet with its colors, sectioned in such a way as to create a sort of red colored trail effect and the famous 27 in white. 10 meters long and 2 meters high, it is made of 5 mm thick steel.
"Michele Alboreto was a great pilot, an excellent sports manager, a colleague of mine as vice president of CSAI and I was able to personally experience his value - explained the president of ACI, Angelo Sticchi Damiani - . In 2021 we named the Parabolica curve after him, now the Alboreto curve, and today we are here to show everyone a work created in his honor”.
Ten dispensers for sunscreen: an initiative in collaboration with LILT
At the same time as the Fanzone opened to the public, the distribution of SPF50 sunscreen began through 10 dispensers located within the circuit that work autonomously thanks to a built-in solar panel. The cream is dispensed automatically and hygienically. This is an initiative created by Autodromo Nazionale Monza in collaboration with LILT, the Italian League for the Fight against Cancer. According to 2023 data from Aiom (Italian Association of Medical Oncology), exposure to UV rays is the most important environmental risk factor for skin cancer.

At the Formula 1 Pirelli Italian Grand Prix, LILT offers the public sunscreen dispensers
Engines on: Formula 1 returns to the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, recently reopened following modernization work. From August 29 to September 1, the “Temple of Speed”, one of the oldest and most prestigious circuits in the world, will host the 95th edition of the Italian Grand Prix. New asphalt, a more performing track and new pedestrian paths are just some of the new features that await drivers and fans.
One of the most unexpected is certainly the presence of 10 sunscreen dispensers that LILT and the Autodromo have decided to place inside the circuit.
At the dispensers, which work autonomously thanks to a built-in solar panel, the public will be able to stock up on SPF 50 sunscreen, dispensed automatically and hygienically. The dispensers will be periodically refilled with product to allow anyone to make a “pit stop” for protection at any time. The sunscreen inside the dispensers is approved by a LILT dermatologist and protects against solar rays, which are a risk factor for the development of skin cancer and premature aging of the dermis.

On Saturday 31 August during the weekend of the Formula 1 Pirelli Gran Premio d'Italia 2024, the first edition of the Anello della Regina will take place at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, an award desired and sponsored by the Municipality of Monza and the Lombardy Region that interprets and represents some elements of the History, Culture and Tradition of Monza and Lombardy with an obvious reference to the Grand Prix of Italy.

The “ Every driver, a tree ” initiative, promoted by Automobile Club d'Italia in agreement with the General Command of the Forestry, Environmental and Agri-food Units of Carabinieri, continues on the occasion of the Formula 1 Pirelli Gran Premio d'Italia 2024.
Twenty trees, one for each protagonist of the World Championship. A reforestation project with the planting of native plants supplied by the National Centers for Biodiversity of the Carabinieri. The appointment is for Friday 30 August at 11 am near the Variante Ascari .

The idea is to offset part of the carbon dioxide emissions produced during major events and tends to enhance the role of plants in reducing air pollution.

The ceremony will be attended by the President and CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, the President of ACI, Angelo SIcchi Damiani, the President of AC Milano, Geronimo La Russa, the President of Sias Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Giuseppe Redaelli, the General of the Army Corps Andrea Rispoli, Commander of the Forestry, Environmental and Agri-food Unit Command, the Brigadier General, Raffaele Pio Manicone, Commander of the Carabinieri Biodiversity Group.
Objective 50 thousand trees throughout the country
The project was born from an idea by Paolo Cantarella, president of the ACI Sport Historic Car Commission, which has seen the planting of 740 trees so far in 2024 on the occasion of seven historic car races and the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Imola and Monza. This initiative is part of the national project “ A tree for the future ”, launched in 2021 by the Carabinieri Forestali in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, with the aim of creating a widespread forest, extending across the entire national territory through the planting of 50 thousand trees, all geolocalized, in a few years.
